経歴・特徴

彼の猛烈な歌声、そして焼けつくようなエレクトリック・スライド・ギターのリフは、ロックン・ロールにインスピレーションを与えた。ロバート・ジョンソンから学んで自分流に作り変えた「ダスト・マイ・ブルーム」のような歌でのリックは、無数のミュージシャンに模倣され、ブルース、ロックのスタイルとしてスタンダードとなっている。マディ・ウォーターズ同様、ジェイムスもミシシッピ出身。シカゴに移って、どのバンドよりも汗臭いバンド、ブルームダスターズを率いた。ウォーキング・ベースを弾きながら、ウォーターズに匹敵する独自性を構築。B.B.キングジミー・リードといったブルース・アーティストから、ロック系のローリング・ストーンズ、ジョージ・サラグッドに至るまで、後続アーティストへの影響力も絶大。
